Welcome, Queens dancer! We are excited to meet you and learn about your work. The QDF tour is an exciting schedule of performances and classes, where you will feel a community of Queens dancers in all of its vibrant diversity. Participating dance groups will also receive free benefits including performance photo & video, rehearsal space, dance classes, physical therapy sessions, teaching opportunities, professional development workshops, and access to a network of Queens arts & cultural resources. Please remember to be eligible to apply, you must be based in Queens as an individual resident or dance company, with a Queens mailing address.
The Queensboro Dance Festival is programmed to represent a strong, diverse range of cultural and contemporary dance cultivated in Queens. Choreographers and dance groups of various cultures and techniques, dancers with disabilities, and integrated dance groups are all welcome to apply. BIPOC-led and/or BIPOC-majority dance groups are also strongly encouraged to apply.
Dance proposals will be reviewed by a panel of esteemed presenters, funders, directors, and service leaders from the NYC dance field. Panel criteria is: clarity of the dance proposal, strength of dance technique, alignment with the festival’s mission, and ensuring there is a diverse range of cultures and dance styles represented overall.
As a guide during the application, please refer back to the Call for Dancers/FAQ page on our website, and for more info we invite you to attend our final Speed Dancing event on Monday February 9, 5-9pm at Jamaica Performing Arts Center.
Tips on the work you propose: We want to uplift your dance works and share your story. However, remember to consider how your work will be adaptable to perform in outdoor public space in natural daylight, with other activity and audience sometimes being all around us. We also welcome work that speaks to any history of Queens that resonates with you, or themes/vibe of summertime.
Also inside the form:
- Mandatory dates
- Requirement to upload video file (no online links) of your proposed dance work, updated resume, and 2 high-res company or choreographer photos
We estimate it will take 1-2 hours total to fill the form, review the dates, and upload your video work sample. You can save your progress and come back to your form later if needed. We strongly suggest you always take a final look at your submission to make sure you selected the correct dates and spelled everything correctly.
